Media Player

The Classroom Media Player is a new type of teaching software and one that recognises the changing educational landscape of the 21st Century.
Offscreen's first Media player was developed in partnership with HSBC in the Middle East Community Foundation, British Council and Said Foundation and distributed to schools in the UAE, Lebanon, Oman and Bahrain.

Multimedia teaching is nothing new, but up to now, its use has been hampered by a number of issues. Streaming media over the internet is unreliable in many schools and banned in some. Current software alternatives are not designed to be able to mix fi lms, photos and text. In addition, research shows that multimedia content used in lessons needs to be both customisable and delivered in curriculum relevant ‘chunks’.
Taking these issues on board, we worked with educational social enterprises, teachers and pupils to create a tool that makes multimedia teaching simple, engaging and eff ective. The fi rst Classroom Media Player, ‘Journey to the UK – An English Language Teaching Resource’ will be launched in Bahrain, Lebanon, Oman and the UAE in early 2010.
