British Museum Artists-in-Schools

Winchmore School

As part of Phase 3 of the British Museum's Artists-in-Schools project, British-Iraqi graphic artist, Athier Mousawi, worked alongside head of art, Steve Willcock, with a group of Year 9 gifted and talented students on a project entitled ‘Deconstructing Images and Words’. Students drew on Athier’s unique graphic style, to explore a range of imagery from the Arab world. Using the British Museum’s Mesopotamian, Assyrian and the Islamic Galleries and experimenting with a range of artistic techniques including printmaking and assemblage, students worked towards highly imaginative and often surreal mixed media drawings. The students’ work from this project will become the first part of their GCSE portfolio.
