Geometric Journey

Plashet School

Plashet Grove
East Ham

Students worked as a group to make a large Arabian geometric artwork. The concept was to take an imaginary journey from East Ham in london (the outside of the geometry), through a series of Islamic countries, to Mecca, the center of the Islamic World (at the center of the pattern). The project began with a visit to the British Museum where students learnt about different artistic traditions in the Islamic world. Back at School students worked in pairs, using collage and printmaking to decorate sections of the geometry in the style of different countries. The finished artwork was exhibited at the British Museum as part of the Middle East Now Season.
